Leslie is an active community member and homeowner in Emerson East. She has 25 years experience as a small business owner with successful retail businesses in Districts 4 and 6 in Madison and has collaborated on many city plans, most notably the Halloween/Freak Fest plans beginning in 2004 and the Williamson Street redesign and construction of 2011. She is a former Spanish educator with 15 years experience at Madison College, Clark College and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has also worked as a medical and legal interpreter for many years, most recently spending 6 years interpreting for Public Health-Madison and Dane County. She is completely bilingual and bicultural having lived in Mexico and Guatemala for extended periods of time.
Leslie serves on the Board of Directors of several area not for profits, including the Social Justice Center, WYOU Community Television and the Wisconsin Citizens Media Cooperative, a worker co-op she helped found in 2011. She is a member of the Greater State Street Business Association, Emerson East Neighborhood Association, Marquette Neighborhood Association, Willy Street Co-op, Progressive Dane, Northside Action Team, and Friends of Cherokee Marsh.
Leslie lives in Emerson East with her son Marley, a Madison College student and 2012 graduate of Madison East High School and their 2 dogs, Bear and Baby.
